Overview

The Genesis 400 loudspeaker boasts a dipolar configuration, radiating sound from both its front and back. This unique design offers numerous advantages over conventional speakers, including easy room placement and an expansive, accurate soundstage presentation. Adding to its appeal, the Genesis 400 features an exquisite rosewood veneer finish.

Each Genesis 400 speaker houses five drivers, comprising two ribbon tweeters, one three-inch midrange dome, and two eight-inch metal cone woofers. These drivers are meticulously engineered to operate as perfect pistons within their respective frequency bands. The tweeters, lauded by numerous reviewers worldwide as potentially "the world's best," employ a remarkable one-inch planar ribbon design.

Crafted by hand using an extraordinarily thin laminated membrane of aluminium and Kapton, measuring a mere 0.0005 inch in thickness, these tweeters exhibit the swiftness of top-tier ribbon/electrostatic designs while circumventing the issues of high distortion and poor dispersion typically associated with them.

The Genesis 400's three-inch midrange dome is constructed from a fusion of titanium and silicon carbide. This robust and lightweight design effectively eliminates breakup modes across the middle frequency range, enabling remarkable dispersion, dynamic range, and coherency in reproducing musical content.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Unknown condition on this Fusion Research Genesis 400 listing at AUD 2,950 makes the price hard to benchmark precisely—could be a steal or a punt depending on wear. These rare hybrid electrostatics from the early 2000s originally retailed north of AUD 15,000 new, with consignment pairs in good shape lately fetching around AUD 3,000-4,000 locally; pristine ones might dip to AUD 2,500 if motivated, but cosmetic dings or repairs push it ambitious without photos or service history.

Before biting, insist on verifying the panels for delamination or arcing scars—common in aging electrostatics—and test the servo amps for hiss or channel imbalance, as rebuilds run AUD 1,000+. Confirm serial-matched pair, grilles, and spikes are included; no original crates? Fine, but chase receipts to gauge hours and mods. Demo in your room if possible—these scale huge with power.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Fusion Research

Fusion Research is a niche boutique brand in the custom integration and digital audio space, founded in 2003 by a team of successful entrepreneurs passionate about digital entertainment systems. Headquartered in Northern California with engineering offices in Maryland, the company emerged from expertise in digital imaging, audio processing, storage, networking, and control protocols. This American outfit quickly carved a focused path in the residential and commercial AV markets, leveraging open IP-based products to address emerging demands for seamless media handling.

The brand specializes in high-performance music servers and media controllers, most notably its Ovation series, which deliver robust streaming capabilities independent of legacy platforms like MySqueezebox. Products like the Ovation Duet and Summit OS servers support direct integrations with services such as Spotify, Pandora, SiriusXM, and TIDAL, alongside pioneers like DTS Play-Fi for wireless speaker control. Fusion also ventured into commercial applications with SoundMachine, an affordable, controllable music server tailored for public spaces, emphasizing reliability in networked environments over traditional hi-fi categories like amplifiers, speakers, or analog sources.

Positioned as a specialist in the custom install market, Fusion Research holds a strong reputation among professional integrators for durable, future-proof digital audio solutions rather than consumer high-end hi-fi. It's not a vintage collector's darling or broad-spectrum audiophile marque but a go-to for sophisticated, controllable streaming in upscale homes and businesses, thriving on technical innovation amid volatile media landscapes.
