Seller's Description

JL Audio Fathom 113 V1 (pair) Subwoofer (Active / Powered) Can't believe I am selling these amazing subs. Sold as a pair with Furutech cables at this stage The power and authority these have is amazing. But they're just too much for my small place, so I am going to downsize. They're the original V1 and have had the power supply upgrades done.  They have the mic's and manuals. No marks/tears and I'll include some Furutech power cables and the Furutech Flux-50's in the sale. I'll be super sad to see these go, but they're overkill (ask the wife how the whole place shook the other day when I turne

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

At A$7,000, this JL Audio v1 powered unit is ambitiously priced and likely over the typical used market range, which usually sits between A$3,500 and A$5,500 for comparable v1 SLASH models like the 300/4. The eBay listing for a similar 300/4 Slash V1 at US$599 (roughly A$950) underscores that A$7,000 is far above even the 75th percentile, making it a hard pass unless it’s a rare, mint, original-owner sub with full accessories.

The v1 SLASH series is well-regarded for its tight, musical bass and robust build, often favored by enthusiasts who value precision over brute power. If this listing truly includes original packaging, cables, and documentation from a single owner, the upside in rarity and condition could justify closer to A$6,000—but at A$7,000, it demands proof of exceptional care or a unique configuration. Without those details, the price feels inflated for a used product that’s been on the market for over a decade.

About JL Audio

Founded in 1975 in Miramar, Florida, by James Birch and Lucio Proni—whose initials inspired the JL name—the company began as a modest venture crafting high-fidelity home speaker systems and kits. Riding the car audio boom of the early 1980s, Birch and Proni pivoted to automotive applications, pioneering subwoofers like the W2, W5, and later the acclaimed W7 series, which featured patented technologies for superior bass performance. This heritage of engineering innovation, fueled by competition wins and relentless R&D, propelled JL Audio from a garage operation to industry trailblazer, expanding facilities in Florida and Arizona.

JL Audio excels in high-performance categories tailored to demanding environments, with a core focus on car audio amplifiers, subwoofers, and full-range speakers, alongside marine audio systems built for harsh saltwater conditions. Their lineup extends to home audio, including powered subwoofers and high-output enclosures like the Stealthbox, but eschews mainstream consumer fare such as turntables, DACs, headphones, or cables. Decades of acoustic expertise ensure products deliver precise, powerful sound reproduction across vehicles, boats, and living spaces.

Renowned as a high-end authority in mobile and marine audio, JL Audio commands premium positioning among discerning enthusiasts who prioritize uncompromised fidelity and durability over mass-market compromises. While mid-tier options exist, their reputation rests on boutique-level engineering—think W7 subwoofers that redefined bass standards—cementing a loyal following in competitive scenes and upscale installations. For the knowledgeable hi-fi buyer, JL Audio represents enduring excellence in specialized, physics-driven audio solutions.
