IMF ALS 40 Floorstanding Loudspeakers A very beautiful pair of the highly sought after IMF ALS 40. Extremely well looked after, with the full upgraded crossover kit from Falcon Acoustics. Very beautiful, natural sounding tweeter sound accurate reproduction of vocals. One of the best and most balanced vintage speakers I have heard thus far, with lots of clean and tight bass. This model has the super rare Peerless Tweeter and Peerless midwoofer which sounds magical. Grills are in perfect condition. Would love to keep these but unfortunately they are just too large to be on my entertainmen
A$1,500 is fair-to-strong money for these if they’re complete and working well; for a vintage IMF/Falcon transmission-line design, that sits in the “worth a serious look” zone rather than an obvious bargain or stretch. The model is identifiable enough to benchmark, but I’d still want to confirm the exact version, restoration history, and whether the surrounds/crossovers have been serviced, since those details move value a lot.
What you’re buying is the classic IMF appeal: deep, room-filling bass, a big scale, and that smooth, effortless midband transmission-line sound these speakers are known for. If the cabinets are clean and the drivers are original or sympathetically restored, A$1,500 is a sensible entry point; just make sure both speakers are matched, all drivers are healthy, and any replacement parts or refoam work are disclosed.

Falcon Acoustics traces its roots to 1972, when Malcolm Jones, KEF Electronics' first employee from 1961 and its original Chief Design Engineer, founded the company in England as Falcon Electronics. Starting as a modest family venture with his wife Valerie, it began on a kitchen table in Bexhill, Sussex, before relocating to Mulbarton in 1976 and later to Acle in 2003. Jones's deep expertise from KEF shaped Falcon into a key supplier of audio components, including pioneering self-bonded ferrite-cored inductors that fueled numerous hi-fi magazine speaker designs in the 1970s.
The brand focuses primarily on high-performance loudspeakers, with renowned models like the award-winning BBC LS3/5A Gold Badge, the only production version fully meeting the original 1976 BBC specification. Its lineup extends to the R.A.M. series and HP.80, all handcrafted in Oxford, alongside a historical emphasis on supplying drivers, crossovers, and components to manufacturers and enthusiasts across the UK and Europe.
Falcon holds a revered niche as a boutique high-end marque, celebrated for authentic recreations of classic monitor speakers and meticulous engineering. Positioned among Europe's preeminent audio brands, it appeals to discerning collectors and hi-fi purists seeking unparalleled fidelity and heritage-driven excellence.
