Seller's Description

Harman Kardon 330c UPGRADED with 82 Parts Replaced to improve performance and reliability (READ FULL DESCRIPTION FOR DETAILS ON UPGRADES), conservatively rating this 7.5 out of 10 cosmetic condition (see pics/notes below), 10 out of 10 sound, fully functioning, sounds incredible! The Harman Kardon 330c is a highly regarded vintage stereo receiver from 1975, known for its warm, "musical" sound and 20W per channel output into 8ohms. It features a distinctive smoked glass faceplate, reliable solid-state engineering, and is often preferred for vinyl setups due to its quality phono stage. 20W is extremely conservative, many note this is more realistically 30W and I was using it on some 50W plus speakers with plenty of power/sound to shake the neighbors. In an era where most companies were chasing more watts, Harman Kardon engineers focused on other metrics to improve sound quality and performance at lower wattage delivering sound quality that exceeds its power rating and price point, making it a coveted item among collectors and music lovers. UPGRADES65 Parts Replaced for Improved Performance and Reliability. NEARLY FULL RECAP - every single capacitor has been replaced in Power Amp, Tone Board, Power Supply, Phono Board with nichicon modern equivalents. NOTE: Tuner board capacitors not replaced, it is fully functioning to spec so I'm leaving that board all original. All known noisy/troublesome transistors replaced on the power supply, amp board, tone/preamp board, phono board. Variable resistor trim pots for dialing bias have been replaced and bias is set to factory spec 10mv. New upgraded LED lamps for dual lamps, power button, stereo bulb, FM meter bulb. FM is clean and clear on many stations even in my remote area, I suggest attaching an antenna if you live in a more rural area. This unit sounds as good as it did leaving the factory in 1976. COSMETICS 7.5 out of 10 conservatively. REVIEW ALL PHOTOS FOR COSMETICS, I have included close ups of all areas mentioned. First, the tuning meter does not function. It lights up but does not move. The plastic smoked black face area is as mint condition as I have ever seen. The aluminum face under that has dented corners at each side and there is a scratch bottom edge under bass knob. Treble knob has some scratches. The top cover is in great shape except for one gouge in the center top. Please review all photos carefully, what you see is what you get. IMPORTANT - If you want a nearly pristine 330c please see my other listing. If you want a sonically restored and pretty good condition with noted flaws 330c at a discounted rate taking in to consideration the issues, this one is for you. It will blow the roof off the house if you want it to, the sound fills the room and stays clean no matter the media or the volume. I strongly recommend playing with "contour" button engaged to hear the full potential of any Harman Kardon from this era, it is truly a warm, bright, clean sound. I have collected and auditioned the best receivers from Marantz, Pioneer, Sansui, Yamaha and I have settled on the Harman Kardon trio 330c/430/730 as the best looking and sounding receivers for my eye and ear slightly overtaking Marantz 22 series as a close 2nd. This truly is an incredible piece of equipment, these models really do live up to their sterling reputation and this is an opportunity to own a nearly fully restored (anything left in this receiver is not known to have issues so they have been left alone), great condition Harman Kardon 330c.I have many years selling and shipping heavy, vintage stereo equipment. This will be thoroughly and adequately packaged for safe shipping. I will also purchase insurance so buy with peace of mind knowing this will arrive as seen/described, should anything happen, we are insured and covered on this transaction.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

The unknown condition is the key issue here: at US$900, this is clearly ambitious against recent comparables, sitting well above the US$700 75th percentile and US$500 median. Unless it has documented restoration, exceptional cosmetics, or valuable servicing included, the price is difficult to justify; a more convincing target would be around US$400–US$700.

The 330C is a worthwhile vintage receiver when healthy, with a warm, engaging presentation, a strong phono stage, useful tone controls, and a conservatively rated 20 watts per channel—plenty for efficient speakers and nearfield systems. Before considering this example, require clear proof that both channels, phono, tuner, controls, speaker outputs, and lighting work properly. These units can need contact cleaning or age-related service, so unknown condition at US$900 is a meaningful risk rather than a buying opportunity.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Harman Kardon

Harman Kardon traces its origins to 1953, when Dr. Sidney Harman and Bernard Kardon, both engineers frustrated with conservative audio manufacturing at the David Bogen Company, invested $5,000 each to launch their venture in Westbury, New York. Their debut product, the Festival D1000, became the world's first compact AM/FM hi-fi receiver, blending breakthrough technology with sleek design to make high-fidelity sound accessible beyond technical enthusiasts. Pioneering innovations like the 1958 Festival TA230 stereo receiver, the 1959 Citation II ultra-wide bandwidth tube amplifier, and the 1970 CAD5 hi-fi cassette recorder with Dolby noise reduction cemented their legacy in simplifying premium audio for the home.

The brand focuses on integrated receivers, amplifiers, tuners, and speakers that emphasize performance, reliability, and elegant industrial design. Over decades, it expanded into home theater systems and automotive audio, powering systems in vehicles from Land Rover and BMW to Volvo and Polestar. While not delving into turntables, DACs, headphones, or cables, Harman Kardon prioritizes cohesive hi-fi components that deliver warm, detailed sound without unnecessary complexity.

Harman Kardon holds a solid mid-tier position in the hi-fi market, renowned among knowledgeable buyers for its enduring quality and value rather than ultra-high-end exotica or vintage collector status. Now part of Harman International, it appeals to discerning listeners seeking dependable, stylish gear that echoes its innovative heritage without commanding boutique premiums.
