Audion Premier Phono Stage

Audion is a British hi-fi brand founded in 1987, with roots in the UK tube-audio scene. It was established by David Chessell, working with designer Erik Anderson, after their experience around Audio Innovations. The company emerged with a clear mission: to make serious valve amplification more accessible without losing the qualities that appeal to audiophiles.

The brand is best known for tube amplifiers, especially integrated and power amps, with a strong emphasis on single-ended and no-feedback designs. Audion’s early identity was built around compact, purist amplification rather than a broad catalog of source components or loudspeakers. It is not primarily known for turntables, DACs, headphones, or cables.

In the market, Audion sits firmly in the niche boutique-to-high-end end of the spectrum, appealing to buyers who value classic valve sound, hand-built engineering, and British hi-fi heritage. It is more specialist than mainstream, with a reputation tied to musicality, transparency, and traditional tube craftsmanship rather than mass-market versatility.
