New pricing is difficult to pin down for this discontinued Anniversary variant, but £1,950 sits comfortably above the £1,208 median of recent used examples, while remaining below the £2,466 75th percentile. That makes it a fair-to-upper-market ask rather than a bargain; negotiation would be sensible, especially without a stated condition or valve history.
The appeal is real: this hard-wired EL34 design is known for a warm, dimensional, genuinely musical presentation, smooth transients and strong lower-midrange weight. Its conservative Class A output suits efficient, benign loudspeaker loads particularly well, and the manual is a useful inclusion. Before committing at this money, establish whether the valves are healthy, confirm quiet operation and check the mains voltage and service history. In excellent, original condition it is worth considering, but a price nearer £1,500–£1,700 would look more compelling.
Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.
Audion is a British hi-fi brand founded in 1987, with roots in the UK tube-audio scene. It was established by David Chessell, working with designer Erik Anderson, after their experience around Audio Innovations. The company emerged with a clear mission: to make serious valve amplification more accessible without losing the qualities that appeal to audiophiles.
The brand is best known for tube amplifiers, especially integrated and power amps, with a strong emphasis on single-ended and no-feedback designs. Audion’s early identity was built around compact, purist amplification rather than a broad catalog of source components or loudspeakers. It is not primarily known for turntables, DACs, headphones, or cables.
In the market, Audion sits firmly in the niche boutique-to-high-end end of the spectrum, appealing to buyers who value classic valve sound, hand-built engineering, and British hi-fi heritage. It is more specialist than mainstream, with a reputation tied to musicality, transparency, and traditional tube craftsmanship rather than mass-market versatility.
