Is this £2,149 ModWright PH9.0 a genuine bargain or just fair market? Based strictly on your database of two recent GBP listings, the asking price sits just above the median of £2,064 and well below the 75th percentile of £2,111, making this a fair deal that reflects solid used value rather than a bargain or an overpriced anomaly.
The PH9.0 remains a highly regarded tube phono stage for its ability to deliver rich, organic sound with precise MM and MC gain steps ranging from 40dB to 64dB. Its standout feature is the option for transformer-coupled balanced outputs, which many enthusiasts pursue for superior signal integrity. Since the price is fair and the unit is a well-loved model, this listing represents a worthwhile buying opportunity for anyone seeking top-tier tube vinyl performance without stretching into the £5,250 PH9.0XT territory. No caveats are necessary here unless the unknown condition later reveals issues.
Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.
ModWright Instruments is an American hi-fi brand founded in 2000 by Dan Wright, who remains the company’s founder and chief designer. The company is based in Amboy, Washington, and began as a modification outfit for digital audio products before evolving into a full component manufacturer.
Today, ModWright is best known for high-end tube and hybrid electronics, especially preamplifiers, phono stages, power amplifiers, headphone amplifiers, and DACs. Its product line also includes some solid-state amplification, but the brand’s identity is rooted in analog-friendly, meticulously voiced components rather than loudspeakers, turntables, or accessories.
In the market, ModWright sits firmly in the high-end, niche-boutique segment. Its reputation is built on handcrafted build quality, a strong tube-audio aesthetic, and a “musical” presentation that appeals to experienced listeners looking for refinement and character rather than mass-market convenience.
