Seller's Description

Linn Ekos Mk 2 Tonearm Very late model Ekos Mk 2, serial 9333, silver dot.  (note - not an upgraded Mk1)    Comes in original box, and includes Linn tone arm cable.      Looking at the global market (check out hifishark), I believe this Ekos Mk 2 is priced very reasonably.   As background, I purchased from Peter Swain / Cymbiosis in the UK.  Peter travelled to Australia, and fitted this tonearm to my LP12 along with a number of other upgrades.   Photos show a Dynavector DV-20X2 fitted.  The cartridge is not included in the current price. I am good to offer this cartridge at 1/3 of average Aust

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

At AUD $2,400 for a used Linn Ekos cartridge, you're looking at a solid mid-market price. Without knowing the exact variant (Mark 2 or SE) or condition details, it's difficult to pin down precisely, but used Ekos arms have historically traded in the AUD $1,400–$3,100 range depending on age and included cables. This asking price sits comfortably in that zone—not a steal, but not inflated either. If it's an SE variant in good condition with original packaging and a quality cable, it's reasonable; if it's an older Mark 2 with wear or missing documentation, you might negotiate down slightly.

Before committing, verify the cartridge's tracking force adjustment mechanism moves smoothly without grinding or resistance—wear here is expensive to repair. Confirm it comes with the original counterweight and any VTA spacers; missing components are a red flag. Ask for specific production year and serial number to check against known service bulletins, and request photos under bright light to spot any visible damage to the armtube or wiring. A cartridge this age deserves a proper setup check once it arrives.

About Linn

Linn Products: Brand Overview

Linn Products was founded in 1973 by Scottish engineer Ivor Tiefenbrun in Glasgow as a vehicle to manufacture the Sondek LP12 turntable, which would become the company's most iconic product and a cornerstone of high-fidelity audio. The brand emerged during the golden era of British hi-fi with a revolutionary "source first" philosophy—challenging the prevailing industry belief that loudspeakers mattered most by demonstrating that superior sound quality begins with the audio source. This foundational principle has guided the company's engineering ethos for over five decades.

Linn's product portfolio spans the complete hi-fi chain, from turntables and tonearms to preamplifiers, power amplifiers, and loudspeakers. The company introduced the world's first microprocessor-controlled preamplifier and power amplifier in 1985 (the LK1 and LK2), establishing itself as an electronics specialist. From 2007 onward, Linn pivoted toward digital music streaming, becoming an early adopter of network-based audio playback supporting studio master-quality recordings at 24-bit/192 kHz resolution, and discontinued CD player production in 2009 to focus on this strategic direction.

Linn occupies the high-end segment of the audio market, commanding respect among discerning audiophiles and collectors for its uncompromising engineering approach and longevity. The brand's reputation rests on meticulous product design, acoustic isolation principles, and a commitment to eliminating weak links in the signal chain—a philosophy that has made Linn one of the most influential manufacturers in hi-fi history and a benchmark for quality-focused audio engineering.
