This is a serious whole-house audio matrix, not a casual streamer, and the asking price sits a touch above the center of the used market. At £527 against a median of £243 and a 75th percentile of £528, it’s right on the edge of the upper quartile, so I’d call it ambitious rather than outrageous.
The appeal is obvious if you need true 16x16 distribution: it’s built for large multi-room systems, with zone-specific level and tone control and broad compatibility in Control4 setups. That makes it a worthwhile buy for a renovation or a replacement in an existing install, especially if it’s complete, clean, and comes from a known working system. At this price, though, buyers should want evidence it powers up, switches correctly, and includes any rack kit or cabling needed to drop straight into service.

Matrix Audio traces its roots to Xi'an, China, where three high school classmates bonded over music and audio tinkering in the early 2000s. Their passion led to building homemade speakers during a 2001 summer holiday, evolving into formal collaboration after university in 2006 with the debut of the groundbreaking DAC DA-100Plus. The brand was officially registered in 2013 under Matrix Electronic Technology Co., LTD, embodying the founders' vision of balancing sonic precision and aesthetic harmony—reflected in the "matrix" name, drawn from mathematics, and their slogan "Into The Music."
The company specializes in high-performance digital audio source devices, starting with DACs and headphone amplifiers like the best-selling mini-i series. From 2016, they expanded into streaming solutions with companion apps, and by 2018 introduced integrated music streamers featuring power amplification, quad-core processors, and MA Player software. Today, their lineup emphasizes all-in-one Hi-Fi components that blend research, design, and manufacturing in-house, prioritizing seamless integration into modern homes.
Matrix Audio holds a strong position as a mid-to-high-end contender, prized for exceptional value, engineering excellence, and user-friendly execution that rivals legacy brands. Globally recognized for sound quality, build, and minimalist design, it appeals to discerning enthusiasts seeking complete digital ecosystems without complexity, earning acclaim from audiophiles worldwide.
