Compared with the usual consumer preamp or small mixer at USD 225, this is a strong deal if you have a use for its installation-oriented feature set. The asking price is below the USD 150–699 middle 50% of comparable listings’ range but above the USD 150 25th-percentile mark, making it clearly inexpensive rather than merely average; the market median is USD 319.
Its appeal is practical flexibility: four configurable mic/line inputs, balanced connectivity, AES3 capability, network audio, and unusually comprehensive web-controlled DSP including EQ, filtering, gating, and compression. It can run standalone or integrate into a Nyquist system, making it especially useful for multi-zone, paging, or distributed-audio projects. Confirm that the power cord, Phoenix/screw-terminal hardware, mounting brackets, and network access are included, and verify standalone operation if you do not own Nyquist infrastructure. At this price, a tested unit is worth serious consideration.

Matrix Audio traces its roots to Xi'an, China, where three high school classmates bonded over music and audio tinkering in the early 2000s. Their passion led to building homemade speakers during a 2001 summer holiday, evolving into formal collaboration after university in 2006 with the debut of the groundbreaking DAC DA-100Plus. The brand was officially registered in 2013 under Matrix Electronic Technology Co., LTD, embodying the founders' vision of balancing sonic precision and aesthetic harmony—reflected in the "matrix" name, drawn from mathematics, and their slogan "Into The Music."
The company specializes in high-performance digital audio source devices, starting with DACs and headphone amplifiers like the best-selling mini-i series. From 2016, they expanded into streaming solutions with companion apps, and by 2018 introduced integrated music streamers featuring power amplification, quad-core processors, and MA Player software. Today, their lineup emphasizes all-in-one Hi-Fi components that blend research, design, and manufacturing in-house, prioritizing seamless integration into modern homes.
Matrix Audio holds a strong position as a mid-to-high-end contender, prized for exceptional value, engineering excellence, and user-friendly execution that rivals legacy brands. Globally recognized for sound quality, build, and minimalist design, it appeals to discerning enthusiasts seeking complete digital ecosystems without complexity, earning acclaim from audiophiles worldwide.
